Zbrush/Mudbox speed sculpt done in short amount of time (couple of hours). I usually do this to relax from professional work and to experiment with rendering. If I've got a project I want to carry a bit further, it will be moved to the Work in Progress page. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- First doodle of 2013 :) First time not using symetry for most of the sculpt. It brings a nice organic feel to it. Alien Zbrush sculpt. Part one for now as full body creature take a little bit more time to do Quick Raphael from TMNT Zbrush sketch (2hours crunch). Zbrush crashed when I was almost done :( no timelapse for this one. Might use an external capture software next time ... Quick Wolverine sketch Timelapse Quick Hellboy sketch with Timelapse I'm trying to use features I have never used before in Zbrush 4R4. On these models I 've used a lot dynamesh, the new curves brushes, the clipping tools and Qremesher. Yupa from Nausicaa Hulk speed sculpt A quickly sculpted model for a contest on CGFeedback. Finished second :) Mood/Comp test for the previous picture A quick study of the previous French president Nicolas Sarkozy. Did this during the last election :) Shifflet Brothers inspired speed sculpt Female face study. I noticed only now how far the ears are ... I will need to change that one day ! Femal face study This guy could be a baddie in Fist of the North Star :D My first test using vray and the SSS2 shader. It was fun to sculpt. Here's my not finished personnal work. I always hope all of this models will get to a finished state one day :) ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Generic Female study (WIP02) Some update on the shading/texturing. Gave her a pose as well for an illustration I'm working on. She definitely needs some hair now :) Some close-up : Generic Female study (WIP01) I never had any personal generic human basemesh to start a character from. It's mainly a study. The goal is to get a somewhat realistic figure, and then re-use it on different project. This one as strong features (breasts) as I use it for a project I'm working on. Once completed I'll do a more generic one with simple forms for the head. I might start a male version after this stage, using the same topology for the body, and maybe a sligh variation for the face. Toes will be sculpted for now on this one. If I've got time I would like to do a version with toes modelled in. Gunm/Alita Angel (WIP02) Almost done with the backpack. Need lot's of work on the face at the moment, and some details here and there. I'm planning on posing her and sculpt lots of scratches etc. Will probably print it in 3D as well :-p Hellboy Character created by Mike Mignola. Love the design and the story of the comic book. Rendered with Vray. Gunm/Alita Angel (WIP01) One of my favorite manga. I've always wanted to model Gally. Still a lot to do on this one. The hard surface modelling is challenging, as I decided to do the outter space suit from the Last order part of the story. Jack Found some nice 2d artwork and decided to translate it in 3d. Vray render. Mcbess Toy Vinyl Toy designed by Mcbess. Will probably end up being a real collectible one day :)

Traditional Sculpture & DIY

I'm trying to get into traditional sculpture and make-up/prosthetic stuff. It helps me to understand better the forms and to be able to do a better job as a digital modeller. Its fun too :) ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Haloween this year was the occasion to try some new things with silicone mould making :) the theme of the party was : Famous movie death. I choose Alien as I always loved the cantina scene where we see for the first time an Alien poping out of a chest. Tools of choice for sculpting Chavant clay Nailed a wooden peg to a big flat wooden board I had from a furniture I build some time ago.Used a 5mm aluminium wire as the main holder of the Chavant clay Starting adding the clay to get the rought diameter of the beast. And added a small wire for the jaw. The fact it wasn't glued or fixed to anything proved to be a really good thing when I had to unmould the sculpt Adding more clay. It's starting to shape-up nicely. Doing primary forms first 2nd stage of adding clay, refining the shapes, carving details already. Starting on secondary forms at this stage. Proportions are locked at this point Adding teeth made from super sculpey and baked to be hard and sturdy. Put them 15min in the oven which proved to be way too much ... It shouldn't be chargrilled black Final model : Used cardboard and some strong sealing type glue. Should be silicone leak proof and easy to remove. Silicone from Tiranti. Should have bought 2Kg instead of just one ... but it's so expensive ! I did the silicone pouring in two batches. 300g of standard silicone to do a "print" coat thanks to the high viscosity, in order to capture all the details Then the rest with a thickener, to have a strong hold against the sculpt, trying to get a uniform coat all around. Didn't manage to get everything perfectly, but I'll use my experience for next project ! I added a curing booster, so it was dry after 3hours compared to the initial 24 hour I needed to find something to fill the rest of the mould ... I was thinking of using plaster, but I needed to be able to remove the silicone easily and due to the tapered design I would have needed to make a 2 pieces plaster holder. Really tedious to do. Hopefully I bought some expandable foam that I wanted to test The result ! Foam takes around 30 minutes to fully cure. Removing the cardboard proved to be a bit of pain as the foam is really moist when rising and got merged with it Took me 10 minutes to remove the sculpt from the silicone. I cut in half one side of the mold, so I could slowly open it to unseal the sculpt. Time to get a cast off the mold, used rubber band to prevent any leaks. Tightly put together with rubber bands. The more the better :) Used gelatine for prostethic make-up. It smells nice, and come in small cookie-shaped size. Need a double-boiler to melt-it. It cure when cold, which takes less than an hour if the mold is put outside. I had to flush the mold for 20 minutes to make sure the gelatine was going to fill-up every nook and crannies, and stay there :) Gelatine is cured, it has a nice thickness, and has really cool translucency properties. There's a few bubbles, but overall not too bad for a first try. I just had to clean a small seam in the middle from the cut in the silicone Painted it white / yellow with acrylic paint, and added a gloss coat on top Used a banana belt/bag that I strapped to my chest and made a hole for the base of the cast. I then added lots of fake blood, and voila ! Close-up of the finish prop Lots of learned things and had fun ! ----------------------------------------------------------------------- I always wanted to do a cast of my head and make a prostethic with latex. I had the opportunity to do it when I had to dress up for a freak themed party. Small step by step : Alginate to get a detailed cast of your face Plaster stripes to have a hard shell around the soft alginate Wait 10 minutes and be amazed by the negative of your face, then clean the nose holes with a bit of wet clay Pour plaster mixed with water in the mould Wait for the plaster to dry : Tada ! Cleanup any bubble/hair weirdness/missing volume Sculpt some digusting appendice on your casted face with wet clay Make a new alginate/plaster stripes cast of your new face Pour latex in the mold, wait a lot for the latex to dry Tadaaaaa Paint ! (didn't do a good job as I was in a rush ...) Use latex glue and make-up add accessories I had lots of fun doing it :) An old man study to undestand better the tools I've got and test some techniques learnt through watching Gnomon Dvds and such (12cm tall). Framestore Live model sculpting (8weeks). Started with the skeleton and built up the muscles on top. First time I had a model in front of me.

Short movies I've worked on ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Tea Party Short movie done with Solene Chan-lam. I've done the rendering/shading (Maya) and a bit of compositing (After Effect) on the film. Galactic Mail I had the chance to help my friend Asterokid to do a bit of storyboard and compositing work on this really cool short-movie. Little red ridding hood Graduation movie done in 2006 with 3 other people. I did the character modelling, some rendering and took care of the whole wolf creation/animation.

Other stuff

Here's where I put my stuff that doesn't really belong into other categories. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- T-bone coffee cup I've always wanted to test Shapeways 3d printing service and decided to design a T-bone shaped coffee-cup. Inspired by Mcbess art :) Will need a few tweaks in the design, and I'll probably put it on sale. It has the size of an expresso cup for now, but I intend to make it bigger ! ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Mcbess Project A little birthday gift done for my friend Mcbess. Did a 3D model, and sent it to the guys at Ownage to get it printed. It's 20cm tall, and is currently sitting under a glass bell. The 3d model made in Zbrush/Maya Printed part, without the paint Paint job With the glass bell Thanks to everyone that participated to be able to print it :) ----------------------------------------------------------------------- KidRobot Munny My friend Douglas Lassance asked me if I would be interested in working with him to re-create the Munny in 3D for their packaging. I jumped on the occasion as I think Kidrobot are doing really cool stuff with their vinyl toy. To be able to re-create them perfectly we were sent the prototype straight from their factory and used a software called Imagemodeler to have Cameras created in 3D lining-up with pictures we had during a photo-shoot. It make the whole process of creating an existing object in 3D easier.

Film / TV work

This is the professional work I've done over the years on films (Framestore) ----------------------------------------------------------------------- The Amazing world of Gumball I had the chance to be involved with the BAFTA winning TV serie The Amazing world of Gumball. I've worked on tweaking the shapes and adding details to Tina the t-rex. The Design has changed tremendously between Season 01 and 02. The latest design getting closer to the mythic Jurassic Parc classic T-rex while retaining exaggerated shapes. How she appears in the show: This is the old version of Tina (Season 01), where I was also involved for sculpting details as well. She had a design closer to a toy, with cartoonish shapes. Wrath of the Titans I did a little bit of modelling on the main Cyclops of WOT. It was mainly on the face ( tear ducts, inside of the mouth, teeth). And did a LOT of work on corrective shapes for the body, facial Blendshapes. At the end of production I was asked to do the finalling shot by shot to get nice and clean deformations everywhere. A lot of work went into the shoulders/chest area. Clash of the Titans I was in charge of design/model of the armor that Medusa is wearing. I've also spent some time making/tweaking the eyes/teeth/eyelashes. I did the 3d copy of the bow and arrow that were actual props to use on set. I then spent a lot of time re-creating the environment where the whole sequence takes place so animator and render people could do their job. Primeval Season 3 (TV) I had the chance to work on this project as a creature modeller. I had a good time as I was quiet free of constraint during the modelling/detailling process. The tale of Despereaux I was in charge of modelling Lester, Despereaux's father. I did the faceshapes as well. I then spent a long time making props and environnement. It was a really cool project to work on :)
